- A Mark of assurance, of bright thinking and right thinking
We would like to hold the Mark but realise now that our trading levels do not reach 50%, what can we do?
Some social enterprises operate on the cusp of earning 50% of their income through trading. If they are awarded a single large grant, for example for capital investment, then this might affect the trading income shown in a single year’s accounts. If this is the case then you could submit other year’s accounts as well, ideally the past 3 years, with two out of three showing more than 50% trading income.
If the business is within 5% of the 50% threshold and is within the first three years of trading, then this can be acceptable as long as the drivers of the business are clearly trading rather than seeking grants.
If trading levels are lower, we suggest you take advantage of the Business Link service and call 0845 600 9966 or email socialenterprise@businesslinksw.co.uk for advice on how you can develop your business.
