Mid Devon Community Recycling (MDCR) began as a voluntary group in 1988 in response to local worries about waste. It’s now a fast growing community company with a turnover in the region of £1.3 million. Turnover has grown at a rate of about 25% per annum since the formation of the company.

MDCR currently employs about 40 people who are assisted by a team of 15 regular volunteers. The company also provides work experience training for six to ten learning-disabled adults.

Recycling bagsKen Orchard, CEO of MDCR:
“We're delighted to become a holder of the social enterprise mark. We believe our Social Enterprise status is an increasingly powerful selling point for us - something unique, that gives us a real edge over conventional competitors. Holding the mark will help us to shout about that edge.”
